Description

The Technics SL-1200G Direct Drive is a high-spec turntable that delivers a flawless performance when at work in the club or the home.

The Technics Grand Classic SL-1200G is a top-tier hi-fi turntable designed for discerning audiophiles, representing a re-engineered and redefined iteration of the Direct Drive Turntable. Originating in the early '70s, the SL1200 has undergone several versions (in the UK) and, despite its discontinuation around 2010, remained a go-to reference deck for club usage. Now, in its G form, it has returned, boasting improvements surpassing its predecessors.

Coreless Direct Drive Motor
Conventional analogue turntables often suffer from sound quality degradation due to factors like slight speed vibration during rotation and rotation irregularities, termed "cogging." The SL-1200G addresses this issue with a newly developed coreless direct-drive motor, eliminating cogging. Additionally, the twin-rotor setup reduces bearing load while maintaining high torque, diminishing minute rotation vibrations. These enhancements allow for the faithful reproduction of the warm, finely detailed sound etched on analogue records.

High-Precision Motor Control Technology
Utilising motor control technology adapted from Blu-ray devices and employing different drive modes based on the motor's operational status, the SL-1200G achieves high starting torque and stable high-speed rotation.

Three-Layered Turntable Platter
Featuring a three-layered design with a rigidly combined brass and aluminium die-cast platter, the turntable effectively dampens unnecessary resonance with a deadening rubber covering its rear surface. This construction provides substantial rigidity and vibration damping, ensuring smooth rotational stability and inertial mass that exceeds the renowned SP-10MK2, the standard direct-drive turntable used by broadcast stations globally, with more than double the inertial mass of the SL-1200MK5.

High-Level Balance Adjustment
The turntable's balance is precisely adjusted at the factory using specialised high-precision balance adjustment equipment for individual units. This adjustment ensures even weight distribution, minimising excess vibration or noise during rotation, thus preserving sound quality. Factory-adjusted turntables bear a sticker labelled "BALANCED" signifying the completion of this meticulous process.

High-Sensitive Tonearm
Employing lightweight magnesium with high damping characteristics and refined by cold drawing techniques, the tonearm achieves the precision required for optimal performance. Utilising the traditional Technics gimbal suspension construction and high-precision bearings, it attains high initial-motion sensitivity, crucial for exceptional performance.

Four-Layered Cabinet Construction
An additional 10-mm-thick top panel of impeccably finished aluminium, combined with the previous three-layered construction of aluminium die-cast, BMC, and heavyweight-class rubber, enhances rigidity and offers a premium finish and feel.

High-Quality Terminals
Utilising brass-milled, gold-plated phono and ground terminals, the SL-1200G prevents sound quality degradation while facilitating easy cable attachment and detachment. Internal metal shielding construction minimises the impact of external noise, further preserving audio integrity.
