MRC Aramid Fibre Matrix Woofer
The XS-162ES's main speaker diaphragm is made of Sony's distinctive Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) substance. In comparison to traditional driver materials, its stiff yet light driver enables a significantly more accurate response, resulting in smoother and more realistic sound qualities.
Optimal formulation
Diaphragm resonance is suppressed, and distortion is minimised, not only in the low frequencies but also in the mid and higher frequencies, when MRC is embedded in a special matrix of aramid fibres. The end result is a sound that is exceptionally clear and strong at all frequencies, even at high volume.
Bi-amp capable crossover with gain selector
For a smooth high-end, the audiophile-grade crossover has a perfect, lower-resistance film capacitor. Because it may use two amplifiers, current distortion to the tweeter when the woofer is operating at high input levels is reduced. Even when driving the speakers from a single amplifier, a separate gain selector makes it possible to change the tweeter level and maintain balance between the woofer and tweeter signal levels.
Separated Notch Edge Surround
Another Sony-exclusive design element is the woofer surround, which has characteristic curved notches that improve vertical amplitude symmetry and result in noticeably less distortion and improved clarity.
Five-beam Frame Structure & Dynamic Air Diffuser
The incorporated Dynamic Air Diffuser offers effective air circulation for smooth cone travel and voice coil cooling while the Five-beam Frame design disperses resonance.
